Middle Tennessee Nephrology has been serving the Middle Tennessee area since 2009, when our practice first began. Our goal is to provide the highest possible kidney care in a very efficient and personal way. We present the national standards of care to our patients and let the patients be involved, very closely, in the decision making process. We strive to be flexible with our scheduling and always keep our patients' interests in mind.
We take care of several stages of kidney disease from stage 1 to stage 6. We usually see patients who have Stage 3 chronic kidney disease or higher (kidney filtration <60 ml/min or GFR <60 ml/min), unless they have other kidney problems like proteinuria (leaking protein in urine), calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium or acid-base problems in the blood.
We are especially interested in helping the primary care doctors with blood pressure control, especially resistant hypertension and also make recommendations regarding safe medicines for management of two of the most important cause of kidney failure, diabetes and hypertension.
We also manage high parathyroid levels and related Vitamin D problems, that are often seen secondary to kidney disease, and can be efficiently treated especially in early stages.
We also give dietary advice regarding salt and mineral intake and give recommendations on protein intake and assess fluid and volume status.
We help the primary care doctors and the cardiologists in managing the delicate fluid and volume status in heart failure patients, especially the ones that do not have perfect kidney function.
We also take care of patients that have a difficult time with controlling fluid accumulation in the legs and other areas.
We provide dialysis to patients who have end stage kidney failure, and are very experienced in providing home dialysis services as well as in center dialysis. Home dialysis allows some patients a level of privacy, freedom, and independence that they may prefer.

Dr. J. Mathews Joseph has been practicing as a Nephrologist in the middle Tennessee area since January 2009 when Middle Tennessee Nephrology practice was started. Prior to that, he was a full partner with a Nephrology group in Ashland, Kentucky where he practiced for 4.5 years.
Dr. J. Mathews Joseph gained his Nephrology fellowship from Louisiana State University in Shreveport in 2004. He is Board Certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. J. Mathews Joseph's passion is to provide a very high quality, excellent and innovative patient care that exceeds the national standards. He is keen to provide this care in a very efficient and responsive manner, so that his patients feel understood and feel that they can reach him easily.
Every patient is important to Dr. J. Mathews Joseph and every question from a patient is an opportunity for education and connection.
Dr. J. Mathews Joseph lives in Gallatin with his wife and 5 children. He enjoys listening to audio books while he is driving and loves to go to the movies with his wife and children. He loves being home and loves home cooked food.
Dr. Anumeet Priyadarshi joined Middle Tennessee Nephrology as a partner in March 2010. He gained his Nephrology fellowship from the University of Toledo in 2006.
Dr. Anumeet Priyadarshi also has a degree in Master of Public Health from the same university. He is Board Certified in Nephrology and strives to provide high quality kidney care in the middle Tennessee area. He likes to exceed national standards of care.
Dr. Anumeet Priyadarshi has also been conferred "Fellowship of American College of Physicians" and "Fellowship of American Society of Nephrology." During his medical training, he was involved in several research projects and has authored several peer reviewed articles in renowned journals.
Dr. Anumeet Priyadarshi loves to be at home with his 2 children after work and enjoys traveling and reading books.
In addition to managing the office, Laura Shelton also handles all of the insurance and billing needs for the office.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Laura Shelton graduated from Volunteer State Community College with an Associates of Science degree and continued her education at Tennessee State University majoring in Biochemistry.
Laura Shelton has been in the medical field for approximately 16 years doing various jobs over the years. She joined Middle Tennessee Nephrology in October of 2011 in addition to working at Sumner Regional Medical Center for the last 10 years on the cardiac telemetry floor.
Laura Shelton’s skill set is valuable to Middle Tennessee Nephrology’s continued high level of patient care.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoys shopping, watching movies, traveling and trying new foods.
Loni Timberlake joined the time at Middle Tennessee Nephrology in June 2016 as a medical assistant. She has eight years of experience in the medical field. She previously worked at Sumner Regional Medical Center and NHC Hendersonville.
Loni Timberlake has a degree as a medical assistant and as a medical biller and coder as well. Her addition to Middle Tennessee Nephrology is a tremendous benefit and value to the patient experience.
Ashley Smith is a medical assistant, biller, and receptionist at Middle Tennessee Nephrology. She has been here since November 2016. She has experience in the medical field working for Sumner Regional Medical Center for 4.5 years and has worked in nursing homes and home health for more than 4 years.
Ashley Smith is furthering her education by getting certified as a medical biller and coder. She strives with the staff to make the most out of every day at the office for her and for her patients.
Ashley Smith enjoys nothing more than coming home to her two kids and spending quality time with them after a successful day at the office with the staff and patients.
